About Stephanie Hurst

I'm a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFTA) providing holistic mental health therapy to individuals, couples, and groups. I enjoy looking beyond the surface level to guide my clients into a deeper, better, and more rich understanding of their inner selves and relationship dynamics. I relish supporting their healing process and wellness journey while offering a compassionate, supportive, and unique therapeutic relationship. Inner work can be challenging.

It may be the toughest thing you ever do, but you have the potential in you. You deserve to be heard and to take up the therapeutic space to share your story. I will strive to ensure you feel safe and cared for during your healing process as we work together. You are not alone.

My Education

I received my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from Abilene Christian University and my Bachelor's in Psychology from Seattle Pacific University. I continue my education with additional training to be able to treat clients from a holistic approach.

My Training

My Approach

To provide my clients with the best holistic mental health support possible, I provide evidence-based therapy and draw from various therapeutic approaches, including narrative, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), emotion-focused therapy (EFT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR). These approaches help clients master essential cognitive and emotional skills and provide them with the appropriate therapeutic space to share their stories. They help identify patterns and thoughts contributing to emotional distress, anxiety, and trauma. I work with my clients to help break these negative patterns (behaviors and beliefs) and empower them to make changes that provide a path to mental and emotional well-being.

Of these approaches, EMDR therapy is unique in its power to reprocess traumatic and distressing memories - such as PTSD, rape, abortion, traumatic birthing experiences, and debilitating depression. In some cases, EMDR therapy can shorten the time it takes an individual to process and heal from their trauma, which makes it a valuable tool in supporting perinatal mental health. It can prove to be a more thorough approach than traditional talk therapy. I, too, have experienced the power of EMDR therapy in my healing.

Focus

While I support individuals, couples, and parents across the therapeutic spectrum, I specialize in perinatal mental health therapy, with a particular passion for working with those who have experienced trauma. Whether you've experienced unresolved childhood trauma, infertility, a traumatic birthing experience, or daily postpartum ups and downs, you've come to the right place. You are irreplaceable, which is why the work we do together is meaningful.

Experience

In addition to my private practice, I worked in a hospital setting with families with terminally ill children. This experience gave me a unique compassion for hurting families. It also sharpened my ability to collaborate with other medical providers on behalf of my clients. Additionally, as a trained Doula, I understand the birthing process and various pregnancies and postpartum experiences. Furthermore, while working on my master's degree, I volunteered time working with pregnant and postpartum homeless women. As have many of my clients, they taught me endurance and fearlessness and encouraged me to persevere.

Personal

In addition to being a therapist, I have other important roles too; I'm a mom, a wife, and a person on her journey of transformational growth and inner healing. When you get to know me more, you'll notice I'm an old soul and genuinely enjoy a slower pace. I also like cooking, reading, gardening, and exploring the great outdoors of our beautiful state of Washington.

I can't wait to meet you and work alongside you on your path of growth and healing!
